A polearm with a curved, sickle-like blade.

Rhomphaia Rhomphaia Rhomphaia

The rhomphaia was similar to the falx, a polearm wit a sharp, curved blade. It had a blade slightly less curved than the falx, but still served the same purpose. The rhomphaia was very effective. So effective, in fact, that the design of the Roman helmets was changed to defend against it. An iron reinforcement bar was added along the top of the helmet to block the rhomphaia’s deadly blows.
